Xperience STEM Conference held at the Colorado Convention Center, brought together 500 adventurous science educators and administrators interested in experiential science and it’s STEM applications. Our group of 10 teachers headed to Mission:Wolf for a 2 day overnight immersion. Now we reflect on inspiration and stories and how to spark student interest in learning and continuing education.

Students realize how hard it is to prepare wood for a warm homestead…especially during Colorado winters!

Aided by our colleague and friend Doug Hill of Gone Feral, students learn the challenges faced when building and keeping a fire

When the chores are done it’s time for play! Games like hoop and stick, wooden yo-yo, corn-husk dolls….no electronic technology here!
A beautiful day on the Colorado plains – perfect for recreating what life in the 1860’s might have been like. Students panned for gold, sawed wood, made char cloth and tried to start a fire, played with pioneer toys and games, made buttons and carded wool, ground corn and fried up johnny cakes, made apple cider and tried their hand at writing with quill pens. This is truly a spectacular and successful educational day for all. We continue to receive rave reviews for it’s engaging qualities and authentic hands on experiences.

Arches National Park with the Challenge School from Denver
Exploring the nooks and crannies by day. And by night — the inky black night sky brimming with stars, crowned with a nightly show of shooting stars and the Milky Way. Truly one of the most magnificent places on Planet Earth!
Fall Music Adventures with Profe Gonzalez and Louisville Middle School Choir
Combining the natural world with challenge while integrating Costa’s “Habits of Mind” during their choir retreat at Highlands Camp and Retreat Center. Rhythms of nature, the story in rocks making up the Hidden Room and amazing music orchestrated by “Profe” makes this a one-of-a-kind choral adventure for students.
