Paleo Field Science Gear List
Explore the long-vanished Cretaceous Wyoming shoreline where dinosaur bones are still found today! We’ll learn about “ethical paleontology” using fossil evidence to interpret past life. As “field crew” students will participate in a real “dig” and some of the findings could go into the Indianapolis Children’s Museum. Reconstruct a life-size dinosaur from the Lance Formation, learn about western harvester ants role in discovering fossils and explore paleoecology. Imagine finding teeth from T. Rex, a shark’s tooth or a Triceratops horn! Our expert paleontologist, John Hankla, is a self-proclaimed “paleo nerd” who grew up in these parts tagging along with his dad on digs and his interest in Paleontology flourished. John’s enthusiasm, knowledge and love of sharing his discoveries is magnetic. We’ll sleep under an ink-black sky spattered with diamonds, feel the warm western winds whispering the history of long-ago, learn wilderness skills and practice leave no trace travel. Community building and fun are integral to our camps. Paleo Park in eastern Wyoming near Lusk and Newcastle is our destination. We’ll experience ranch life and the history of Paleo Park. Included in this super cool week is a day of top-rope rock climbing in Vedauwoo, http://www.vedauwoo.org near Laramie, Wyoming.
